Talk to Each Other (Or Us): Internal Messaging is Here
One of the things we’ve wanted from the start is for Icarian to feel like a community, not just a tool you use alone. Your collection data is useful. Your trade binder is useful. But the people behind those collections? That’s where things get interesting. We play Magic together.
Starting today, you can message other Icarian users directly from within the app.
Why This Matters
You’re browsing someone’s trade binder and spot the weird promo Dockside Extortionist you’ve been hunting for months. Previously, your options were: hope they listed contact info in their bio, track them down on Discord, or just… move on.
Now you click their profile and send a message. Done.
Same story with deck feedback. You find someone running your commander with a build you hadn’t considered. Instead of wondering about their card choices, you can ask. “Why Reconnaissance over Dolmen Gate?” is a conversation worth having.
How It Works
Click the envelope icon in the nav bar to access your inbox. From there you can start new conversations or continue existing ones.
Every conversation has a subject line - think email threads, not ephemeral chat. This keeps things organized when you’re juggling multiple trade discussions or deck conversations.
Messages appear in real-time. No refreshing, no waiting. When someone replies, it just shows up.
We’re Listening Too
When you get approved for Icarian, you’ll receive a welcome message from us. That’s not a bot, it’s a real inbox you can reply to.
We read every message. If something’s broken, if you have an idea, or if you just want to say hi that’s what it’s for. Your feedback has directly shaped features we’ve shipped, and that’s not going to change.
Keeping It Safe
We want messaging to be fun and helpful. We’re also committed to giving you tools to keep it that way.
If someone’s being a problem, you can block them. Blocking is bidirectional - they can’t message you, you can’t message them, and neither of you will show up in each other’s searches. No drama, no confrontation, just gone.
You can also archive conversations you’re done with. They’re not deleted just gone from your main inbox. You can find them in the archived tab if you need to reference something later.
What’s Next
This is the foundation. We have ideas for where messaging could go: trade proposal workflows, deck sharing, maybe group conversations for playgroups. But we wanted to ship something useful now rather than wait for perfection.
