Targeting Lists for Progress Tracking

Learn how to target card lists to track your collection progress for specific card categories.

What Is List Targeting?

List targeting allows you to track your ownership progress for curated card collections like:

• Reserved List
• Power 9
• Elder Dragons
• Dual Lands
• Fetch Lands
• Commander Staples

When you target a list, Icarian shows: - How many cards you own from the list - Completion percentage - Total value of the list - Which cards you’re missing

Targeting a List

To target a list:

1. Navigate to Library > Card Lists
2. Browse available lists
3. Click on the list you want to track
4. Click Target This List
5. The list now appears on your Collection dashboard

You can target as many lists as you want!

Viewing Your Progress

After targeting a list, view your progress in two places:

On the Collection Dashboard

1. Navigate to Collection
2. Scroll to Targeted Lists
3. See all your targeted lists with:
   • Completion percentage
   • Owned / total card counts
   • Total list value
   • Quick link to list details

On the List Detail Page

1. Click on any targeted list
2. View the complete card list
3. See which cards you own (highlighted)
4. Filter to show only missing cards
5. Sort by price to prioritize acquisitions

Understanding Completion Percentage

The completion percentage is calculated as:

(Cards you own / Total cards in list) × 100

Important: Icarian counts by unique cards (oracle IDs), not specific printings. If you own any printing of a card, it counts toward the list.

Example: If “Reserved List” has 500 cards and you own 100 of them (in any printing), your completion is 20%.

Filtering Missing Cards

To see which cards you’re missing from a list:

1. Open the targeted list
2. Use the Ownership filter
3. Select Not Owned
4. View only cards you don’t have

This creates a shopping list for completing the collection!

Using Lists for Collection Goals

Investment Tracking

Target the Reserved List to track investment cards: - Monitor which reserved cards you own - See total value of your Reserved List holdings - Set price alerts for missing reserved cards - Track appreciation over time

Format Staple Collections

Target format-specific lists: - “Commander Staples” - Track essential Commander cards - “Modern Burn Spells” - Complete your red deck arsenal - “Vintage Power” - Track Power 9 ownership

Thematic Collections

Use targeted lists for purchasing decisions: 1. Target a list you want to complete 2. Filter to show missing cards 3. Sort by price (low to high) 4. Buy the cheapest cards first 5. Set price alerts for expensive cards

Combining with Price Alerts

Maximize your collection building:

1. Target a list (e.g., “Reserved List”)
2. Filter to missing cards
3. Sort by price
4. Set price alerts on high-value missing cards
5. Get notified when prices drop

This helps you acquire cards at the best prices!

Removing Targeted Lists

To stop tracking a list:

1. Navigate to the list detail page
2. Click Untarget This List
3. The list is removed from your Collection dashboard

Note: Untargeting doesn’t remove owned cards from your collection.

List Progress Examples

Power 9 Progress

If you own 3 of the 9 Power cards: - Completion: 33% (3/9) - Owned: Black Lotus, Ancestral Recall, Time Walk - Missing: 6 Moxes - Missing Value: ~$15,000 (approximate)

Reserved List Progress

If you own 250 of 500 Reserved List cards: - Completion: 50% (250/500) - Owned Value: $12,000 - Missing Value: $45,000 - Priority: Target high-value cards before they spike

Elder Dragons Progress

If you own 15 of 30 Elder Dragons: - Completion: 50% (15/30) - Next Target: Missing original 5 Elder Dragons - Budget: Newer Elder Dragons are more affordable

Best Practices

1. Start with achievable goals - Target lists you can realistically complete
2. Track investment lists - Monitor Reserved List and high-value collections
3. Combine with binders - Store targeted list cards in dedicated binders
4. Set price alerts - Get notified when missing cards drop in price
5. Review regularly - Check progress monthly and adjust targets

Common Questions

“Can I target the same list multiple times?”

No, you can only target a list once. If you untarget and re-target, your progress continues from where you left off (based on your current collection).

“Why did my completion percentage go down?”

Rule-based lists can update when new cards are added to the database. If new cards matching the rules are added, the total card count increases, which can decrease your completion percentage.

“Do I need to own specific printings?”

No! Icarian counts by unique card (oracle ID), not specific printing. Any printing of a card counts toward list completion.

“Can I create my own lists?”

Currently, only administrators can create lists. However, you can suggest new lists using the “Suggest a List” feature!
