Introducing Market Watch

November 16, 2025

If you’ve been collecting Magic cards for any length of time, you’ve probably had the experience of discovering a card you own spiked in value—weeks after it happened. Or worse, finding out that bulk rare you passed on is now a $15 staple (I’m looking at you Rhystic Study).

The MTG secondary market moves constantly. Keeping up with it manually means checking price sites, remembering what you own, and doing mental math. We built Market Watch to do that work for you.

All Cards: What’s Moving in the Market

The All Cards view shows you the top gainers and losers across the entire Magic catalog. Pick your timeframe—7, 30, or 90 days—and see which cards are making significant moves.

This isn’t just a raw price list. We filter out the noise by default: cards under $0.50, moves under $0.25, changes under 10%. You’re seeing cards that actually moved in a meaningful way, not penny fluctuations on bulk commons.

You can dial in further with filters for card type, rarity. Looking for Commander staples that dropped? Filter to mythics and rares.

The cards you already own show an “Owned” badge, so you immediately know when something in your collection is on the move. No cross-referencing required.

Your Portfolio, Your Perspective

All Cards tells you what’s happening in the market. My Collection tells you what’s happening to you.

Switch to My Collection and you’re looking at the same price movement data, but filtered to cards you actually own. More importantly, you see the portfolio summary at the top: your total collection value, how it’s changed over your selected period, and whether you’re up or down.

I’ll be honest—I never sell cards. But seeing my collection’s value trend upward over time makes the hobby feel less like throwing money at cardboard and more like… well, still throwing money at cardboard, but at least cardboard that holds value. It’s a small psychological comfort, but it helps…

You can view your collection three ways:

  • All Owned Cards: Everything you own that’s moved in price
  • Top Market Movers I Own: Only cards that appear in the broader gainers/losers lists
  • By Portfolio Impact: Sorted by how much each card’s movement affects your total collection value (factoring in quantity)

That last one is particularly useful. A $2 card you own 12 copies of matters more to your portfolio than a $50 card you have one of—if it moves 20%.

A Note on the Data

Market Watch is only as good as the price data feeding it, and right now that’s primarily TCGPlayer. For most cards, this works well. High-volume staples have stable, reliable pricing.

But for low-volume cards, you’ll occasionally see dramatic swings caused by a single listing or purchase. One person lists their copy at $20 instead of $10, and suddenly it looks like the card doubled. We don’t have a great way to filter these out yet, so take big moves on obscure cards with a grain of salt. If a card you’ve never heard of shows up as a 200% gainer, it’s worth a sanity check before you get too excited.

Staying Informed Without the Work

Market Watch updates daily. Prices come in overnight, movements get calculated, and by morning you have a fresh view of where things stand. No spreadsheets, no browser tabs, no mental load.

Whether you’re looking for buying opportunities, keeping an eye on cards before they spike, or just want to understand what your collection is worth, Market Watch gives you that visibility in one place.
