From Brew to Buy: Complete Your Commander Decks

January 24, 2026

When you brew a deck in Icarian, you’re not working with abstract card names. You’re working with your actual collection. The deck builder knows what you own, what finish you have, and what’s already reserved in other built decks.

That awareness now extends all the way to purchasing.

The New Buy Screen

Click “Buy Cards” from any deck and you’ll see exactly what you need to complete it. Not just cards you don’t own, but cards where you have the wrong finish, a different printing, or a copy that’s already built into another deck.

Each card shows its reason for being on the list: - Not Owned: You don’t have this card - Wrong Finish: You own it, but in foil when you need non-foil (or vice versa) - Different Printing: You own a copy from a different set - Reserved: Your copy is built into another deck

The screen compares prices across TCGPlayer, Card Kingdom, and Manapool. The cheapest option for each card is highlighted, and you’ll see the total for each vendor at the top. Stale prices (over a week old) get a warning icon so you know to double-check.

One-Click Export

When you’re ready to buy, hit the “Copy & Open” button for your preferred vendor. Your buy list is copied to your clipboard in the exact format that vendor expects, and their site opens in a new tab. Paste, review, checkout.

No reformatting. No manual entry. No missed cards.

See Costs Before You Commit

The decks index now shows the total value of each deck and, more importantly, how much you’re missing. That red number tells you at a glance which decks are ready to build and which need investment.

Optimize First, Buy Second

Before you hit the buy screen, check the Budget Optimizer. It finds cheaper printings of cards in your deck, including copies you already own in different sets. Why buy a $15 card when you have a $2 version sitting in your collection?

The optimizer separates free swaps (cards you own) from market alternatives (cards you’d need to buy). Select what you want, apply the changes, and your deck updates automatically.

The Details Matter

A few things we got right that you might not notice:

Finish-aware pricing. Foil and etched cards use foil prices. Non-foil uses regular prices. Sounds obvious, but most tools get this wrong.

Basic land counting. If your deck needs 17 Swamps and you own 9, the buy screen shows you need 8 more. Not “Swamp - Not Owned” seventeen times.

Built deck reservations. Cards assigned to a built deck stay reserved. The buy screen knows that your Sol Ring is spoken for, even if you technically own one.
